The mivape vaporizer is made by vaporfection. Vaporfection is the company that brought us the desktop vaporizer the vivape. The mivape is vaporfections new and first portable vaporizer. The mivape is a portable convection based vaporizer with a glass vapor path, and the looks of an Iphone.
The mivape is a digital vaporizer that claims to do herbs and wax. The unit uses quartz crucibles that slide into the mouthpiece and sit above the glass chamber.
Let’s see what the mivape comes with:
- 1x mivape vaporizer
- 1x mouthpiece
- 2x glass crucibles with silicone sleeves
- 10x wax “swatches”
- 1x micro USB cord
- 1x USB wall adapter
- 1x cleaning brush
- 3x extra screens
- 2x stickers
- 1x user manual
To use the MiVape you fill up the quartz crucible 3/4 with herb. Then you slide the crucible into the detachable mouthpiece portion.
Make sure when putting the mouth piece into the unit the arrows are facing each other.
To operate the MiVape is very simple. The Mivape has a digital display with 3 buttons.
To turn the MiVape on press and hold the large button.
Use the plus and minus buttons to set your desired temperature.
When the MiVape is on, you can push the large button quickly to change from Fahrenheit to Celsius as well as the auto shut off between 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 minutes.
A nice feature is is the battery display on the digital screen.
Once the unit reaches temperature you will notice 15 seconds later a thermometer will pop up to the right of your set temperatures letting you know you are ready to vape!
I start lower than recommended at 340F for herbs and 390F for wax or oils.
When starting at 340F the first hit is fantastic. Unfortunately even at these lower temps, my herb still combusts in the quartz crucible after the first hit. The quartz crucible sits right on top of the glass chamber and gets very hot. I found the only way I had success with the MiVape using herbs was to either hold the unit upside down, or pull the mouth piece out after each draw and suck and blow (get your mind out of the gutter) on the mouthpiece to mix the herb and keep the herb from caking up on the mouth piece screen.
Neither of these options are very convenient but at least there was no combustion.
Needless to say I was less than impressed using herb in the MiVape even at low temps.
With concentrates the MiVape does shine! I start at 390F. I push a wax cloth, which is a small squre of cheesecloth into the quartz crucible.
I then drop a piece of shatter on top. Once it reaches temp and the thermometer appears on the right of the temperature you are good to go.
I have to say I was very impressed with how the MiVape vapes shatter at low temps. I was blowing delicious cloud after cloud.
The MiVape seems to be very effecient with concentrates. I really wished it worked as well with herb.
So what do I think?
The Mivape is new to the market and does need some work.
The unit is plastic, I feel it should be metal to justify the $269 price tag.
It does feel a bit cheap and parts don’t line up that well.
The battery is removeable, but it is encased in a housing and the battery is not actually accessible.
I find the MiVape works well with concentrates, but not so much with herb. The battery meter does not seem accurate. You need to carry the little crucible condom to slide the crucible out of the mouth piece or you will get burned bad.
I feel with some improvements the MiVape could be a viable contender in the portable market. There are things I like about it and things I really don’t like about it, mainly the fact that it combusts herb. I think Vaporfection jumped the gun on releasing the MiVape with all the other portables popping up. I had high hopes for this one, especially being a portable convection unit.
I think Vaporfection needs to go back to the drawing board and change some of the features mainly the heater being so close to the crucible. There is hope for the MiVape, but I was not very impressed with the way the unit functions now.
Hopefully Vaporfection is addressing some or all of these situations as we speak or at least I hope so.
My rating on the MiVape is 2.5 out of 5 stars. It only got this high of a rating because it vapes concentrates like a champ but leaves a lot to be desired in the herb department. Seeing as how cheap good working oil pens are, this is a very expensive concentrate device as it is IMO. I would not recommend the MiVape as is. Hopefully version 2 will be a huge step forward.
Please remember these are my own personal opinions. My goal is to help you the consumer find the vape that is right for you and suits your needs.
Thank you for taking the time to read my MiVape review!
